I pulled the smart phone out of my pocket and hit the proper letter to speed dial my friend. The call connected. As I went to raise it to my ear, it slid across my dry fingers and stumbled from my grip. It tumbled down to the right, off of the book bag lying in the passenger seat and bounced into the crevasse between the car door and the seat, way out of reach. Since I was driving, there was no way to retrieve it immediately. A mixed feeling of amazement, anger, despair, and embarrassment, due to the sudden loss, lead to a frantic series of darting movements and swear words daring to escape from my lips. "Hello!...Hello?", said the voice from the crack.
