Cinematographer Alan Trow BSC Teams Up With Marches.TV for Hay Film School

Famous for books and the literary Festival, Hay-on-Wye now has another draw with the establishment of the Hay Film School.

Film and television veterans Alan Trow BSC and Miguel Ferros MBKS will offer film-making courses for absolute beginners through to workshops for established professionals.

The first Hay Film School course will take place in early September and is for anybody with an interest in getting the most out of their video camera. It will focus on the key things to know about cameras and some simple steps to achieve professional results. The participants will be given an opportunity to put their newfound knowledge into practice and the best footage will be uploaded onto the Marches TV web site.

Other courses available will look at more advanced techniques, editing and sound.

Alan has run workshops for Kodak & Fuji, is a visiting lecturer at the London Film School in Covent Garden and the International Film School in Wales and is a member of the Film panel for Screen Academy Wales. Miguel is also a visiting lecturer at the National Film and Television School, and the HFF Academy, Berlin.

“Hay offers inspirational locations for film-makers and photographers, from the castle and the river Wye to the backdrop of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons.” said Alan “I look forward to helping aspiring cinematographers and directors shoot some great images.”

Alan is a member of the British Society of Cinematographers with 40 years experience of shooting film and video all over the world. His credits include “Up'N'Under”, directed by John Godber, which was one of the most successful independent British movies in recent years, “Monolith”, shot in Hollywood with John Hurt and Lou Gossett Jnr and “Dear Nobody”, by Berlei Doherty, a movie of the week for the BBC.

“What better place to learn how to make great videos than Hay-on-Wye? “ Said Miguel Ferros. “It is a beautiful town, surrounded by amazing countryside. We can offer hands-on film-making experience in a town that is a pleasure to visit, with first-rate food and accommodation.”

Miguel is a post-production expert with over 20 years experience. An award-winning Editor, he has designed visual effects systems and consulted for Broadcasters and Production Companies across the world.

Most recently, Miguel, who runs Marches.TV, was involved in the post-production of “LazyTown” and “Grandpa in My Pocket”, both groundbreaking television productions, as well as consulting for technical suppliers to Hollywood blockbusters such as “Journey To The Centre of The Earth 3D” and “Quantum of Solace”.

Marches.TV (www.marches.tv), is a new website for the Welsh Marches.
It provides a source of video-based entertainment and information for Herefordshire, Shropshire and Powys and was conceived with the idea of giving young people and communities a real-world vehicle for learning how to use media as a business within a rural environment.
