To keep you going through the long cold winter - Winterfest Glasgow presents your favourite Christmas movies in association with Glasgow Film Festival on the Big Stage in George Square. Every Wednesday (6.30-8.30pm) from 26 November until 7 January 09 we’ll be showing your festive family favourites for free in the ultimate outdoor setting.

For the second year Glasgow Film Festival will celebrate the wonder of short film with a weekend of the finest new shorts from around the world curated by The Magic Lantern. We’ll showcase programmes from exciting partners such as Brief Encounters and New Media Scotland, as well as a programme of the finest Artists’ Film and Video from Oberhausen International Short Film Festival 2008. We’ll offer practical filmmaking workshops, screenwriting consultation sessions and plenty of opportunities to network and discuss ideas. There will be panel discussions, parties and more.

The success of the Glasgow Schools Film Festival over several years has encouraged us to grow – and to change our name.

The new-model Youth Film Festival still features some of the best contemporary international cinema alongside workshops on films and filmmaking and interactive special events. But it also broadens the range of creative opportunities around film available to children and young people, both in and out of school. The Glasgow Youth Film Festival is the major showcase of young people’s films in west central Scotland. We can’t wait to show you what’s out there!

GFF09 will, as before, be hosting an eclectic range of blockbusters, independents, documentaries, shorts and artists films. Many of these films will be screening for the first time, many may never be screened again, so there is no better time to catch them. We'll also be bringing you great guests, exciting events and much more...
What’s more, we have expanded our festivals within the festival. For those with short attention spans there’s the Shorts Film Festival curated by The Magic Lantern, while the Music Film Festival promises new sights and sounds. The Youth Film Festival caters for young film fans from 3 to 18
