The Victoria Film Festival

presents more than 140 features, documentaries and shorts every year to an appreciative audience during it’s ten day celebration of film.


Eclectic and inspiring, the Festival hosts an array of guests

that includes film directors, producers, distributors, festival and

TV programmers. In recent years the Festival has been sited in

such media as The Globe and Mail, The Seattle Times, Variety,

and CBC.

Deadline for Entries

Earlybird postmark deadline: August 25th, 2008

Regular postmark deadline: September 24th, 2008

Special note to international participants: the Customs

Declaration should state that the preview video is being

shipped to Canada and is “for cultural purposes and has no

declared value”.

Entry Fees

Earlybird entry fee:  $15.00

Regular entry fee:  $25.00

Acceptable methods of payment include cheque or money

order payable to Victoria Film Festival. All funds must be in

Canadian or US Dollars. Please note on your cheque/money

order, the name of the film being submitted. Enclose payment

with this entry form.

Submissions

1) May be fiction, documentary, animation or experimental of

short or feature length.

2) Only films completed after June 1, 2007 will be considered

for admission.

3) Films which have received television and/or theatrical exposure

in the Victoria, B.C. area prior to the festival are not eligible.

4) Films available on the internet are also not eligible.

InVision: Student Competition

The Victoria Film Festival hosts a film student competition. Works

submitted for this program must have been completed while

attending a recognized film school.

Formats

1) Preview copies of entries for jurying must be submitted in

VHS or DVD in NTSC or PAL format and labelled with the film

title, running time and contact information (including name,

address and phone number). The festival is not responsible for

compatibility issues if DVD preview copies do not play.

2) Preview copies will not be returned.

3) Entrants may submit more than one entry provided that each

entry is accompanied by a separate entry form and is on a

separate VHS tape or DVD disc. Otherwise, we will only consider

the first entry on the preview copy.

4) If selected for the festival, exhibitions prints may be presented in

35mm film, NTSC/PAL VHS, NTSC DigiBeta or BetaSP, NTSC/PAL

DVD or NTSC/PAL DV (in DV SP or DVCAM mode only). Filmmakers

must deliver final format as indicated for festival screening. No

exceptions. Shorts will be compiled into program tapes for screening.

Invitations

The director of each world premiere feature length film

or documentary (70+ minutes in length) will be invited to

attend as the Festival’s guest. The Festival will provide

complimentary V.I.P. Passes for two representatives of each

feature length film or long form documentary (70+ minutes

in length) presented and for one representative of each short

work. The Festival will provide the director of each feature

length film or documentary with six complimentary tickets

to one screening of his/her film. The Festival will provide

two complimentary tickets to each short film director to one

screening of his/her film.

Program Selection

Entries will be reviewed by a Selection Committee appointed

by the Festival Director. The Selection Committee will provide

a list of those film and video works which it feels should be

part of the Festival and will provide a short list of nominees for

Festival awards. Entrants will be notified of the decisions

of the Festival by December 31, 2008.

Upon Acceptance

All shipping costs to Victoria must be paid by the participant.

The Festival will pay the cost of shipping exhibition prints back

to the participant. For international films and videos, our print

traffic coordinator will contact you with specific instructions.

Please do not submit an entry if you are unable to ship the

print upon acceptance. Promotional materials of films selected

for screening become the property of the Victoria Film Festival

and can be used to promote the Festival and the programs of

the Festival in all mediums including film, television, radio and

the internet.

Insurance

The Victoria Film Festival will make every effort to ensure the

safe keeping of all films and videos submitted for exhibition.

However, the applicant in applying to the Festival agrees

to release the Festival, its Officers, Directors and other

representatives from any and all claims arising in any way

from the submission of materials by or on behalf of the

Applicant, whether film, video or otherwise to the Festival.

If you wish to insure your film, please make arrangements

with the programmer. Your signature on the entry form is your

acceptance of these conditions.

Release

Your signature on this entry form implies that you have the legal

right to represent and submit this film for consideration along

with your acceptance of The Victoria Film Festival regulations. By

signing this form, you also agree to allow the festival the use of your

film and its publicity materials for promotional purposes. Shorts may

also be included in a promotional DVD to be screened promotionally

at other festivals but you will be contacted before we do this. Please

black and white and one colour still, and your entry fee.
